And people never give drag racing any credit. I can't even imagine trying to hold that crazy ass car in a straight line with my foot buried in it.

Idk if hold it in a straight line or ride it in a straight line is more proper ..
I grew up in DFW Texas where there isnt much todo but tell Oklahoma jokes and Drag Race so I know it takes some serious balls and skill to get a good pass out of a car like this .. I've seen plenty of pro mod and 10.5 tire racing that was more intense in less than 5 seconds then 4 hours of F1 ..

mmmmm 80's ..
I wasnt born till 89 .. My father also raced as a kid back in the day when it was a land full of "good ole boys" the local chevy dealer here in DFW owed my grandfather a favor .. a big one .. which sucks I never found out what that favor was but my dad was able to ride his bike up to the dealership and pick up a 67 stingray with a blower on it when he was 16 fucking years old for his first car .. Then I get a speech about why I cant have a camaro SS ..
Fuck'em building a LS datsun 280z now ..

Right the LS swap!
Well, my dad was all for the fun, and I was born in 86 so I didn't get to enjoy this car much before it was sold when I was about 5 or so.
I wanted a 69 Nova SS Drag Car my senior year of high school that was for sale becuase it scared the shit out of the owner. Long story short, he built a 454 drag spec car, first run down the strip stared at the sky the whole way, let off completely, smashed the front suspension, towed it home, fixed everything meticulously and only wanted 7500 for it.
Dad got outruled by mom on that purchase lol. My mom now just shakes her head and goes "like father like son" with the Montego, which she heard run with the new exhaust on it (they live in SC, I'm in MI) while she was in town for my son's first birthday. Hahahaha. My dad has had some kick ass cars. 70 Mustang, 58 Chevy, a pair of late 30's Packards, the above Torino Drag car (inspiration for me finding the red Montego), and now his fully restored 64 Dodge 330 Police Car.
He also helped me build my first truck, 88 S10 Blazer. It was a monster and at a time I couldn't attend I was invited to GM's proving grounds for them to test it because they frankly wanted to see it in action.

Same to you if you make it up to Michigan.
The Montego will only be steadily improving (if not slowly) over the years....you know when my broke ass can get some money to work on it haha.
My 2 first "car" memories - 1. Sitting in the above drag car when my dad turned it on, it was SOO LOUD. 351 Cleveland V8, headers, straight pipes. 2. Changing the wheel/tire set on the matching paint job Chevy 1500 he used to tow it, first time using an impact gun.
Been hooked ever since.
